Select two presidential candidates currently in the race. Find out what each candidate's stance is on immigration (you can usually find this on their websites). Compare what they plan to do, their ideology, to what you have learned thus far about immigration in the U.S. Be critical, but be thoughtful and fair.

Harriet Beecher Stowe illustrates the classic paradigm of how a single text can be used to both defend and criticize an issue or practice. In this case, passengers on the boat use the Bible to alternately defend and to rebuke the practice of slavery. Slave owners saw themselves as good Christians and as morally upright in their practice of slavery. Were they justified in believing as they did? Use the quoted and alluded to Biblical passages that Stowe used in Uncle Tom's Cabin and evidence from Uncle Tom's Cabin, itself, to defend your argument.
1. In Slavery By Another Name, Mary Ellen Curtin states, "So there are many important implications and long-term consequences for this convict leasing system. Not only is it so oppressive, but when you have an overwhelmingly black prison population, it cements that relationship between criminality and race in people's minds, to the degree that it's seen as something inherent."
Consider the "Black Lives Matter" movement in reference to this quote. Is Do we need to redefine how we deal with crimes committed by and against blacks considering what amounts to generational criminality (as an outcropping of generational poverty)? 2. Modernly, people often suggest some form of convict leasing. For example, several people post statuses on Facebook suggesting we use prisoners to do this job or that or to serve on the front lines in war, etc. What potential problems manifest with such a proposition? As you see there are two questions and each is a meaty question. for this Weebly, you will respond to each question with 200-250 words per question. You need to respond to at least one other person. 40 points After reading and annotating the Yik Yak essay, write a 150 word (+/-) paragraph articulating the author's "angle of vision." Chapter 4 of the Allyn & Bacon rhetoric text speaks specifically about what questions to ask a text, as does Chapter 2 of your American Lit. textbook. Please read both of these chapters before responding to this Weebly.
Please post your "Letter to the Editor" that you started on 12/8. Remember to respond to two others' posts in a meaningful way.
What do you think the Founding Fathers would have to say about the current refugee relocation crisis in the US? Would they want us to accept refugees without regard for their religious preferences? Would they insist upon a tracking program? Use statements from the documents you have read thus far to support your answers.
The Bill of Rights applies to all people in the United State: citizens, noncitizens, and even illegal aliens. But should it? Defend your answer keeping in mind the intent our Founding Fathers seem to have had (as evidenced through the documents we have read).
Please express your opinion, using solid argumentation, and acknowledge that it is ok to disagree but not ok to disrespect. Select one of the court case scenarios we covered. Argue your own point of view about how the case should have been handled.
Publius, the pseudonym used by the Founding Fathers authoring the Federalist Papers, means "the people," or "of the people." Why is this a suiting pseudonym? While some people use pseudonyms to remain anonymous and to avoid personal scrutiny, the goal, here, seems quite different. What is the effect of using the pseudonym?
