I have chosen music as my artifact. I find myself overthinking homework if I do not have a sort of mental blocker to keep thoughts in. I get distracted easily if I don't have music to listen to absentmindedly. If I have music, I can focus on my work more and less on the real world, so to speak. I have siblings at home who tend to be loud and obnoxious, so it's more convenient for me to block them out to concentrate. I always have some form of music on my person at all times. I feel I can learn better with music on. I've always been this way.

How does it relate to you "as a learner"? In what ways does it represent your process?

The very first essay I ever wrote, five paragraphs about my best friend, Fred the talking dolphin when I was five years old.

I chose music. Music has helped me through a lot of things. whenever i study for a test or i'm doing homework it just helps me stay focused, and I can concentrate on what i'm doing a lot better. Playing musical instruments is actually suppose to make you smarter.. which i'm not really sure if that's worked fir me yet. Actually just last night i had to study for an Ag. test and I couldn't stay focused, so I decided to play some music and you would be surprised as to how well it actually worked. So overall I am writing about music and how it helps me learn and stay focused. I haven't always had music there to help me concentrate but I recently found out that that's what works best for me.

Since i don't have a specific artifact I decided to write how guns were a learning element in my life for not only pulling me to the outdoors and hunting but making me strive to better myself as a marksman, shotguns handguns rifles, whatever i like knowing how it functions.

I chose a pencil as my artifact. I make a lot of mistakes and I choose to try to make things better by going back and fixing what I did wrong. At least try to fix things. I also chose a pencil because I like to stay busy. So if I don't have plans one day I go find something to do which in a way is "filling in my schedule".

In my essay, I decided that my learning "artifact," was movies, movies have taught me so many valuable life lessons. There are good movies, and bad movies, but whats really important is how you can learn and build off of them

The object that I have chosen is my lovely pencil. This pencil and I have been through a lot from all the hard tests to all the times I have thrown it at a table because I lost at bingo four times to Peter. But this pencil has given me a lot of good grades and some bad grades, but the best thing about this pencil is the way it lets me bite on its eraser. When i bite on its eraser it somehow makes me smarter, its like it gives me the answers. This pencil and i are the best of friends, it doesnt get mad at me whenever i snap its lead it just simply lets me push on its eraser to get more lead out. I am very happy to have a pencil like this one, we have created such a bond over the time we have been together. I even let it ride in my pocket because i dont want it to get a concussion and give me bad grades. If that ever happened I would have to throw it away because it didnt preform like how i wanted it to. This pencil has a tough job but it has preformed every time.

The artifact I chose was my first dirt-bike. It was a black little 50cc . The reason I chose this artifact was because it was really the first thing I learned how to do. The second I learned how to stay upright for a few seconds on my bike I was slapped onto the seat of the dirt-bike. It was also the only thing i really enjoyed to do as a kid too, even though I couldn't do much on it, it was what i felt most comfortable doing. Plus riding taught me valuable life lessons like when life knocks you down, you have to hop back up and ride or even to just try things that scare you. Riding that little 50cc was the object that connecting me to learning the most.

I chose the one thing that is always there for you until you really need it. I chose the pencil. The simplicity of the wood and graphite mix is perfect. Think about it the U.S. spent millions developing a pen that can write in micro-gravity and the Russians took a pencil. We are told from the start to use a pencil just in case you make a mistake. It's the one thing that everybody no matter what has used and learned with before. Its the gateway drug to knowledge. We lose you, mistreat you,and break you, but you always come back. It might say number two on you, but your number one in my heart.

I always knew that we were related. I am quite intrigued at the idea of having a pencil being used as a learning artifact. I also look forward to reading your essay 😉

I have chosen my faith, because it has lead me to be who I am today. I feel that the necklace that has made my faith stronger has helped me learn what it is to be a good person (even though I am not that great of a person). I would hope one day I can be the best me. The cross symbolizes how strong Jesus was when he was crucified. My necklace has been a strong hold for me when times get rough. My grandma gave me one made of horseshoe nails when I was six, that day my faith grew a little stronger. Everyday since my faith has grown.

My artifact that I have chosen is music, music has helped me as a learner because I use it to study and think about certain things. Certain songs make me think about a certain subject. I've made songs that have helped me with tests, and music has built some really important relationships for me. Shelley and I became friends bonding over music, and I think that it's awesome. Music is something that is hard for me to describe and explain how it has helped me in my education, I know that you are probably thinking "well Alison maybe you should've chose something that isn't THAT important to you, just so you can explain how it helps you in school", well I feel like I can explain it enough to write a paper.

The artifact that I chose to write about was a basketball. Although I have had many, it has kind of shaped me into the person that I am today. It has been my motivation to work hard in school so that I can play in games. It is part of my lifestyle and I have had to put in so much hard work and time in order to get better. This also taught me to never settle for less in school, I didn't want to settle for C's, but I wanted to go above and beyond to be the best that I can be. I have learned the importance of being able to work well with others and individually as well. Because of basketball, I am now able to learn by watching and by doing things myself too. These things that I have learned through basketball have made me who I am today. The most important thing that I think that I have been taught is to never give up. Never quit, even when things seem to get tough because it will pay off in the long run. The last thing that I learned was to never leave them gym on a missed shot, which has taught me to never leave something unfinished. Basketball has given me so many useful traits that can only get me further in life, and I am very thankful for that.

After plenty of contemplation, I have become at ease with my decision of writing about tabs and how they represent many things in my life including; my formal learning history, things that my friends and family have taught me, and things that I have taught myself. The tabs mainly represent my many roles as an individual. When I think about my life and how I have been living it, I realize that I have the tendency to put others before me, no matter what the case. I make sure that everybody that I care about has what they need and is at ease. The idea that I put everybody else's needs and desires before my own has caused a few problems for myself as a "learner" due to not having the time to do what I need to get done. But, while there are cons to my behaviors, there are also benefits. Knowing that I spend too much time making other peoples lives easier, I have learned how to acknowledge when I need to stop and analyze what I am doing and that I need to prioritize a little more efficiently.

The learning artifact that I chose was a book. Not necessarily a particular book, but just books in general. When I was little, books helped me become more competitive. Once I realized that you could earn points by reading, I automatically wanted to have the highest Accelerated Reading score. Once I began competing in reading, it opened up new doors to sports, grades, and music. I wanted to be the best at everything that I was passionate about. I wanted to learn the piano, so I taught myself; simple as that. I would listen to songs that I heard on the radio and figure them out note by note, chord by chord. Eventually I had to write down each song that I learned because I could play so many by memory (I currently have over four pages of songs). I also fell in love with volleyball, and wanted to be great at it. So I played club every year, went to as many summer camps as possible, and after practice would go home and practice in my driveway some more. I also wanted to do the best that I could on my grades, and never had below a B in elementary school. I wanted to have the highest grades in the class, even as a little second grader. Books helped me find my competitive edge, and that edge will continue to aid me throughout sports, academics, and music.
